Ben Mills & Chris Ntoumenopoulos

Ben & Chris grew up in Western Australia, attending the same high school. Little did they know, years later an idea they shared would lead to the creation of Shelter.

Ben spent a long period in New York, where he was inspired by each wellness concept that sits under the Shelter brand.

With a desire to share this in Australia and recognising a gap in the wellness market, he moved home and re-connected with Chris, a successful entrepreneur, where they validated and actualised their idea of creating a healthier community by connecting people.

Fiercely passionate about their vision, Ben and Chris are motivated to develop and share the Shelter vision with the rest of the world.

Jordan Coulter

The man you will see each time you visit us at Shelter is our General Manager, and founding trainer, Jordan.

Jordan moved to Sydney after a long stint in the U.K and New York, where he was an outdoor fitness expert and DJ. Whilst in New York, Ben and Jordan connected through their shared passion for health and fitness.

When you meet Jordan, you will quickly see how genuine his devotion and belief in providing the body with what it requires truly is and guarantee you will catch yourself in conversation with him on more than one occasion.

Happiness, health and music are the aspects of Jordans’ life that he cherishes most, allowing him to hold classes that are full of sweat, smiles, tears (from laughter), and sound that will transform your workout into a sensory experience.

Mitchel Hurlbert

Mitchel is our impressively tall and smiley Canadian who’s been spinning for over five years, and teaching for three of those. He grew up in a small country town by the Rocky Mountains, where he then moved to Toronto and helped Rocket Cycle take off.

Mitch is currently studying medicine in Sydney – focussing on neuroscience research on multiple sclerosis, and more recently, joining oncologists in the fight towards breast cancer.

When it comes to music, Mitch has a passion for pop – regardless of its age. Accompanying this will be some well known tracks remixed in a unique and energetic way.

Tirrell Cherry

Tirrell is a bit of a Nomad, he’s lived in Japan, Hawaii, most major US cities, Melbourne, and has now made his way to Sydney!

A passion for fitness has always been there but it’s because of a few detours that he’s found himself becoming a huge mind, body & spirit advocate; he was a hairstylist for ten years before making a big pivot to become an instructor at SoulCycle, where he then moved from New York to San Francisco.

A born dancer, don’t be surprised when you see him dancing and jumping around the room during a class.  He has a YouTube channel where he creates motivational videos, is a certified health coach, currently studying to become a meditation/breath-work facilitator, and if that wasn’t enough, also instructs yoga.

His personal motto is “When you give life, you get life” – believing whole heartedly that the energy you give is exactly what comes back to you.

Elle Pirie

Elle has a super power. She knows exactly where you limit lies and won’t let you stop until she is satisfied you’ve reached it. Originally from country NSW, Elle has been in the fitness industry for six years during which she has taught rhythm riding in Berlin, Brisbane and now Sydney!

Elle’s classes are high energy, full of passion and incorporate both mind and body into the workout. Her music is varied; from hip-hop to old school remixes and a bit of house. Regardless, it will make you want to work. This energy she exerts carries across the road to the boxing studio, where you will find Elle when she isn’t upstairs riding.

Outside of the studio walls Elle teaches reformer pilates, enjoyed being outdoors and hiking, loves finding the best healthy brunch spots and is partial to a delicious cheese platter.

Matt Hanham

Born on the South Coast of Sydney, Matt hopped onto a spin bike for the first time three years ago. He never got off. Driven by the idea of curating classes that create special moments for riders irrespective of in studio or riding at home. Matt works during the week with a wealth management firm – using exercise to exercise, and spin to create. Riding with Matt is mix of a dance & sweat. Energetic, electronic & high energy. Enjoy!

Courtney Watts

Born on the sandy shores of the northern beaches, Courtney has taken her career as a group fitness instructor all the way to California. She is one of the founding trainers of Rumble Boxing West Hollywood and previously danced center court for the Los Angeles Clippers. With her killer classes in LA, she was named one of Womens Health Magazine’s most fitfluencial females of 2019.

She has been in the industry for almost a decade with 7 years boxing experience. Her classes are a VIBE! With her passion and expertise in boxing mixed with her background in dance where music and choreography are key, you’ve got the perfect high energy workout. You’ll no doubt feel empowered and motivated by Courtney’s presence.

Brenny McDonnell

Brenny is a boxer, boxing coach and mental health advocate. Brenny has literally spent half of his life in the gym. He’s trained, fought and taught around Australia and Europe.

Brenny is a full-time boxing coach at Bondi Boxing Gym and he runs our Shelter BOX Advanced classes. He’s also the current Sydney Metro ABL Heavyweight Champ.

Brenny’s purpose in life is to do something about the heinous suicide statistics in this country. Boxing is one of the avenues he uses to fulfil this purpose.

He uses his position as a fighter and boxing coach to break down the macho, masculine culture that stands in the way of removing the stigma surrounding mental health in Australia.

His classes are authentic. You can hear it in his voice. He truly believes in what he says and he teaches real boxing in a way that everyone can understand.

All are welcome in Brenny’s classes as well as in Brenny’s world. He believes in self-expression, community and that everyone deserves a place to feel safe and belong. Above all, he believes in love. This is what Brenny fights for.

He’s known for his abs, but more so his courage to be vulnerable and stand up for what he believes in.

In a material, ‘live your best life’ world, Brenny is an example for change.

Follow his posts @brenny_vanilla and his brand @hermanshands to see how you can be a part of what this man is doing for his communities.

Brenny is a lover and a fighter. Brenny is strong and Brenny is vulnerable.

Brenny is a trainer at Shelter BOX.

Maddie Ryan

Maddie is a newcomer to Sydney; relocating from Brisbane to Bondi just over a year ago.

A passionate Muay Thai practitioner for 7 years, Maddie has trained around the world and loves to share her enthusiasm for punching and kicking things. She loves motivating people to step into their power and experience the rush of adrenaline from boxing. When it comes to music, Maddie’s flavour is high energy hip hop and progressive electronic…not the stuff you’d fall asleep to!
